The 10th Annual Bike 5 is happening October 17, 2026 and Early Bird registration is NOW open!

 

To celebrate a decade of this incredible event, we need our dedicated leaders to help us make it our most successful year yet!

 

If you are a BWCF Board or Committee member looking to step into a leadership role for this event, you are in the right place!

  • Looking to volunteer the day of the event (as a City Stop Support or a Ride Marshal)? Please visit our day-of volunteer opportunity page instead.

 

🚲 Bike 5 Committee Opportunities include:

  • Route Development & Marking Committee:
    • Jump on your bike to audit sections of the route, documenting any infrastructure concerns or needed improvements.
    • Verify navigation cues in the Ride with GPS app to account for any route detours.
    • Complete a portion of the route marking the day before the event (Friday, Oct. 16 - takes 2-3 hours).
    • Attend 3 virtual meetings to coordinate efforts and finalize tasks.

 

  • Ride Marshal Committee: New this year!
    • Help shape how Ride Marshals engage with and support riders along the course.
    • Help recruit and prep volunteers for rides by:
      • Providing communications.
      • Organizing and leading practice rides.
      • Ensure roles & responsibilities are carried out to provide a great experience for participants.

The City of Orlando is updating their Bike Plan and Bike/Walk Central Florida as been asked to give input a the following meetings:

  • Citywide Public Meeting

How you can help:

  • Attend a meeting: Join city planners and neighbors to voice your support for high-quality infrastructure.
    • Share Your Expertise: Help guide the "Priority bicycle Network" discussions occurring now through May.
    • This opportunity is for Board Members only. 

 

From the Orlando Bike Plan Website:

"The Bike Plan is the city’s strategic guide for improving its bicycling environment. To be an effective guide, it’s critical to first understand where it is we are supposed to be going.

The city is initiating a minor update to their citywide Bike Plan in 2026 following the latest national best practices for planning bikeway networks. This update will continue to be guided by the plan’s vision statement:

“In the City of Orlando, riding a bicycle is a safe and comfortable experience for residents and visitors of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Residents consider bicycling a practical travel choice enabled by a highly connected, convenient and low-stress bikeway network that contributes to quality of life throughout the city.”"

Description

🤲 Help us make the magic at the 10th anniversary of BIKE 5!

 

BIKE 5 is Bike/Walk Central Florida's annual community ride celebrating connection, movement, and safer, more bikeable communities across Central Florida.

Now in its 10th year, the event brings riders together to experience how neighborhood streets, trails, parks, and main streets connect our communities across the region.

📍Location: Mead Garden, 1300 S. Denning Dr. Winter Park, FL 32789

🕕Time: 6:30am - 1:00pm - Multiple shifts available

All volunteers will receive the perks of registration (and more!) including:

  • The 10th Anniversary BIKE 5 commemorative t-shirt
  • Access to all Ride with GPS route files
  • Morning coffee & bagels

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Route Stop:
  • Bike 5 Ride Marshall - new for 2026!
    • Lead the wave: help set the tone at the front of a start wave (departing every 30 minutes at 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30 (10-mile), and 10:00 (10-mile).
    • Be a resource: Wear a provided safety vest so riders now they can approach you with route or safety questions. We will also have SAG support (with pick-ups)
    • Ride your pace: Unlike previous years, you aren't responsible for pacing or chaperoning a group. You ride your own pace, acting as a visible support presence.
    • Advocate: We'd also love your help in spreading the word to help us hit our 10th anniversary advocacy goals.
    • Prepare: Attend a test ride prior to the event.
    • Note; We will need marshals for all distances (30- and 10-mile) and ride times.

 

After signing-up, we will follow up with your wave and city stop assignments

Bike/Walk Central Florida is joining the Camari Terrell Foundation to bring a free bike safety event to the kids and families in Apopka!

 

With the help of our partners, there will be:

  • FREE HELMETS fit by certified helmet fitters
  • FREE BICYCLES
  • Safety resources
  • Food & Fun
  • Live entertainment
     

🕘 Time: 12:00pm - 3:30pm

  • 11:00am set up

📍 Location: Wheatley Park, 2 W 18th St, Apopka, FL 32703

  • This event will be outdoors.
     

Volunteer Needs:

  • Non-Certified Helmet Fitters - Everyone welcome!
    • Event setup and breakdown
    • Prepare and organize helmets for certified fitters
    • Welcome and registration
    • Line management
    • Outreach materials distribution
    • Ensure kids and families are excited about being safe and wearing a helmet!
       
  • Certified Helmet Fitters - Certified helmet fitters only

Bike/Walk Central Florida is joining Deltona Strong and City of Deltona to bring a free bike safety event to kids and families in the community!

 

With the help of our partners, there will be:

  • Bike Safety Education Stations for kids and parents
  • Free Helmets
     

🕗Time: 8am-12pm

📍Location: Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex, 1200 Saxon Blvd Deltona, FL.

  • This event will be outdoors.
